  紅穗鐵莧菜 (Red Hot Cat’s Tail，Chenille plant，學名Acalypha hispida) 大戟科 (Spurge family，Euphorbiaceae)，鐵莧菜屬(Genus Acalypha)，原產於熱帶亞洲，特別是馬來西亞 (Malesia) 及巴布亞紐幾內亞 (Papuasia) 地區。希臘文屬名Acalypha意為莧菜，因為葉子的外觀像莧菜；品種名hispida意為「剛毛的」，指其有如刷 子的花穗。因它豔紅、引人的花串，常被種爲室內植物作爲觀賞用，因此目前已遍及北美及南美洲北部。USDA Zone 10-11。^1,2,3 

 

它可以長到 5-12 英尺（1.5 至3.7 公尺）高，寬約 3-6 英尺（0.9至1.8 公尺），可作為室外植物或室內植物種植。這種植物雌雄異株，在不同的植物上開出雄花和雌花。雄花並不引人，所以觀賞植物都是雌花。柔軟而毛茸茸、下垂的雌花長約 0.7 毫米 (mm)，花序顏色從紫色到鮮紅色，但也有白色品種（“Alba”），以及另一個粉紅色花朵者。⁴

 

雌花沿著柔荑花序（Catkin）成簇生長，有似螺旋長絨線 (Chenille yarn)，所以英文俗名稱為  “Chenille plant”。⁵ 這柔荑花序的長度可長達 50 厘 米（19.5 英寸）或更長，因這特徵，它的英文俗名又被稱為 Red Hot Cat’s Tail，或Foxtails、Monkey Tail等。花期長，只要溫度適宜，雌花就會全年生長、綻開。枯萎的花序該剪除，如此可促進開花。秋季時，植株變得癰腫、散亂，不太美觀，可把它從地上約一呎高處剪斷，等明春發芽，從新生長。

 

葉子頗大，長 6 至 8 英寸，呈橢圓形，亮綠色至紅銅色。折斷的枝條、葉柄會流出透明乳膠，這乳膠有毒，會刺激皮膚和黏膜 (食用時)。根、葉和花可用於醫療。如果作為室內植物種植時，它需明亮的光線，但避免直射陽光，並需高濕度，且至少華式 61 (攝氏16) 的溫度。使用疏鬆、富含有機質及沙子的盆栽土, pH 6.0 7.5。³ 春、夏季必須保持足够的澆水量；秋、冬季則要減少。它通常用4至6吋長 (雌株) 仟插法繁殖，^3,4 而不用種子。因它是一種快速生長的植物，需要定期施肥，以支持其開花和發育。開花期每隔一週的施肥並不足；相反，每週給它一半強度的平衡花肥，可獲得最佳效果。⁵ 它甚少病蟲害，惟需注意蚜蟲（Aphid）、紅蜘蛛等。

 

前言提到的百老匯音樂劇《貓》(Cats) 是一部由安德魯·勞埃德·韋伯 (Andrew Lloyd Webber) 創作的音樂劇。這部音樂劇講述了一個名爲「傑利克」(Jellicles) 貓部落的故事，他們在每年的傑利克舞會 (Annual Jellicle Ball) 做出了「傑利克選擇」(Jellicle Choice)，決定那隻貓將登上「海維賽層」(Heaviside Layer)，再返回重新開始新的生命。 截至 2022 年，《貓》仍然是百老匯上演時間第五長的演出和倫敦西區 (West End) 演出時間第七長的演出。而最令人難忘的是伊萊恩·佩奇 (Elaine Paige) 的《記憶》(Memory) 這首歌：

 這首歌由伊蓮佩奇 (Elaine Paige) 扮演的角色「格里扎貝拉」Grizabella）演唱，作為對她迷人的過去的憂鬱回憶，和再被接受的懇求。但不管如何，懇求中，她也堅信「天亮了，我必須等待太陽升起，我必須思考新的生活，我不能屈服」(“Daylight, I must wait for the sun rise, I must think of a new life, and I mustn't give in.”)。Barbra Streisand也演唱過 “Memory” ，https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbqsd4Flxh4，其娓婉動聽，「繞樑三日」差可比擬。

 《記憶》(Memory) 這首歌旳歌詞如下：
